What is JLPT N5 grammar?

JLPT N5 is the beginner level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Its grammar is the foundation of simple Japanese sentences: basic particles, polite endings, demonstratives, possession, questions, time, place, and common verb and adjective patterns.

  • は marks the topic.
  • の connects nouns and often shows possession.
  • も adds the meaning “also / too”.
  • です is a common polite sentence ending.

Why this page teaches before testing

A random quiz is useful only if you already know the material. A new learner needs context first. This mini lesson deliberately gives you the rule, pronunciation, example, romaji, and English meaning before asking you to recall it.
